《英雄》在北美首周票房大胜。感叹之余摸到Yahoo! Movies上面看了看美国影迷对该片的评价。令人意外的是，评论几乎是一边倒——最新十条和最受关注的十条影评，给的分数都是A级。从总平均分来看，影评家和影迷的打分都是“B+”——这对于美国本土大片都是很难达到的高度。
我自己曾经看过四次《英雄》——首映那天学长请客看了一次、寒假回家陪父母看了一次、和同学一起去看了一次、搞到三区DVD在家又看了一次。总体感觉，虽然剧本是傻了一些，但是效果和表演都可圈可点，算是国内一流的制作。
没想到到了国外，原先的优势竟然还是优势，而原先的瑕疵在国外影迷眼中也变成了优点——甚至可以说是代表了博大精深的中国文化。汗……不得不承认张艺谋的国际眼光还是相当独到的。只是不知从头臭到尾的《十面埋伏》在今年年底能否获得一样的成绩。

在离开座椅的时候，许多西方观众都会对影片的结尾表示不解。在2000年前，并没有中国，也没有朝代和帝王的概念。实际上，那时的中华大地上有着七个不同的国家，每个国家都拥有成千上万(“成百上千”用在国家军队上似乎过于可笑)的士兵。他们互相争斗，以至于数以百万计的无辜百姓流离失所甚至血流成河。
秦始皇(“第一个皇帝”的意思)最终一统中原平定天下。而在这部电影中，他尚且是个武力凌驾于其他六国之上的国王。

最后，当无名面对取下秦皇首级的机会时，他放弃了自己的行动。在这部电影中，秦始皇的目的是终结战争统一中国。在与秦皇的一番长谈之后，无名终于明白了当时残剑阻止他的原因。残剑是让无名从长计议，为国家社稷着想，而非盯着私人恩怨不放。试想一下，没有战争的人类世界将有多么的平和与美好。
顺带说一下，刺秦确有其事。在史实中，刺客的名字叫做荆轲。他带着樊于期的首级获得了与秦王接近的机会，但最终刺杀失败，惨遭斩首。
一部深邃而富有哲理的电影

不同的色彩代表着各自的情节，并引导观众找到了事实的真相。最后白色的一幕中，刀剑落地，秦始皇告诉我们——“剑的最高境界”乃是“不杀”。要成为一个真正的英雄，就是为了理想为了爱而牺牲自己，为了“天下”而放弃生命。
如果《黑客帝国》令你失望，那么就去看看《英雄》——我看过的最富有想象力的电影。但是，请充分理解电影中涉及的哲理和思考。
好吧，让我们看清事实

首先，许多人错误地以为这是昆汀的作品。实际上，他只是将《英雄》带给了美国观众。早在两年之前，电影就已经在大洋彼岸上映了。2002年我买回了字幕版DVD，初看之下感觉真是难以自拔。虽然部有点神化色彩，但是，相信我，这是一部令您窒息的电影。好莱坞为《英雄》制作的预告片真的是糟透了，它传递了过多的信息，并且严重地误导了观众。我建议大家去电影院看片，哪怕你认为这仅仅是一部昆汀风格的类型片。《英雄》已经为我们敲响警钟，不要再在好莱坞片场中固步自封——要放眼世界，看看我们未曾领略的崭新天地。在下认为，虽然短时间内语言会成为一种文化障碍，但是这样优秀的电影终究会横扫世界院线。

对这部电影的一些负面评论主要集中于四个方面：1.故事线混乱，或者说根本缺乏实质内容 2.打得太假，看起来想抄袭《黑客帝国》的 3.打斗部分太少 4.字幕版本让人跟不上影片进度
对于以上诸条抱怨，我将逐一批驳。
1.在电影中，一个故事被复述了三遍。一次是无名说的，欺骗秦皇以便接近。一次是秦皇说的，他自以为明白了事情的来龙去脉。最后一次又是无名说的，这才是真相所在。如果连这么简单的故事都看不懂，奉劝你还是去看《异形大战掠夺者》好了。
2.如果你抱怨说电影中的打斗缺乏真实感，那么我只能说，你对博大精深的中华文化一无所知。中国的历代武侠名家皆赋予笔下人物以神化的力量——就像在我们的文化中，说话的狗会抓坏人、被蜘蛛咬伤之后会有超能力一样。
龌龊司机兄弟正是东方电影和日本漫画的粉丝，《黑客帝国》里头那些特技就是从香港功夫片里面学来的。而《黑客》里头所有的打斗都是由香港武术指导设计出来的。所以说，《黑客》其实是在抄袭东方电影，而不是你所说的那样。
3.拜托，这就是米拉麦克斯的错了。这部电影根本就不能算是动作片，而是一部包含有动作成分的剧情片。如果在看过全片之后再看看那部预告片，你就会发现预告片和故事情节根本毫无关联。如果你想要看的仅仅是那种智商低下的好莱坞动作片，再次建议去看《异形大战掠夺者》，并在观影的过程中让脑细胞逐一死掉。
4.虽然我的阅读速度不是很快，但是好像在看《英雄》的时候并不觉得吃力。如果你觉得要跟上字幕相当痛苦的话，建议你加强阅读理解方面的训练。就凭这种阅读速度，你在高考的时候八成要挂掉了。

How it ends is what many westerners will be puzzled when they get up from their sits. During that time (some what 2000 years ago), there was no China, no Dynasty, no Emperor (only Kings). It had in fact 7 different Kingdoms and each army had hundred of thousand of soldiers.
(ten of thousands was a joke for a Kingdom\'s army). They fought each others for hundred of years. The results? Millions of innocent people died. Starvation, poverty were everywhere.
Qin Qi Huang (First Emperor) unified them and became China. He said no other Kings had ever accomplished what he had. He is beyond King. That why he called himself \"Qin Qi Huang\", First Emperor of Qin. In this movie, this guy still was a King with the strongest army among the other 6.
He had destroyed a few already in this movie. Thus, the still existed Kings sent out the assassins.
DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DON\'T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING.
Nameless, (Jet Li), aborted his mission at the end when he had the chance to take his head.
Why? He started to understand, after he had close contact with the Qin King, why one of the assassin, Broken Sword, (play by Tony Leung) asked him to stop his mission.
In this movie, Qin\'s intention is to end all wars and poveties by unifying China.
Broken Sword asked Nameless to widen his sight. Think of the humanity, not just the revenge of his own people. Imagine how peaceful and presper humanity will get without wars, which could drag on for hundred of years.
*By the way, the assassin attempt was real in history but not this ways. The real name was Jin Er. He got close to the Emperor because one of the Emperor\'s nemesis, Prince Yin, gave his head to Jin Er and brought to the Emperor for reward. He failed and got kill.

First of all, there\'s a huge misconception about this film. Hero is not a Quentin Tarantino film, he simply brought it to the United States audience. It was filmed over two years ago across seas. I personally went out and bought it on dvd in 2002 and watched the subtitled version. And I found it to be spectacular. You\'re lead to believe it\'s a nonstop breath-taking action film, when in reality it\'s a bit of a mystery. I am not satisfied at all with how the trailer that Hollywood has created for this movie, you\'re almost told too much and far too much misled. I still suggest people go see this movie in theatres, even if they think it\'s some new cutting edge Tarantino action flick. I think if anything, people should take this movie as a wake up call. They should take it as a notice to the fact that there is a whole world of great foreign cinema out there. And rather than stay couped up and isolated in their own hollywood realm, it is a good idea to go out and explore all the great cinema the world has to offer. I think they\'ll find that although language may be a barrier at times, great films still come across well to all audiences.
A deep and very philisophical movie

The emperor tells him about mastering the sword, and you discover that each story done in a different color represents this progression, to the final one, learning to put down the sword entirely, and not killing anyone at peace with yourself, the color white in the last scene. Being a Hero is about sacrificing yourself for an ideal, love, etc. and Nameless learns of this, that he is not a hero, and how to become one. That you have to care for other people\'s suffering rather then your own.
See this movie if the Matrix disappointed you, it\'s the most fantastic I\'ve seen, but know the philosophy and the messages involved with the poetry.

The negative reviews for this movie are quite amazing to me. It seems like there are 4 main complaints:
1) The storyline is confusing or there\'s no story at all.
2) The fights are too unrealistic or borrows from \"Matrix\".
3) Not enough action.
4) Subtitled and you can\'t keep up with the reading.
Here are my response to the complaints:
1) The story is very rich and effective and reminds me of Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa, one of cinema\'s all time best movie. It\'s a story told 3 times. Once from Nameless, who\'s lying to get close to the king. Once from the king who think he has the real truth. And the last time it was told by Nameless, it was the truth. If you can\'t even follow a storyline this simple... go watch AVP or something...
2) If you complain about the unrealistic fights in the movie, you obviously don\'t know anything about Chinese culture. Martial artists in both modern or historical Chinese novels possess powers that makes them almost demi-gods. I don\'t see a problem with this premise, since our culture readily accepts talking dogs that catches criminals (Scooby-Doo if you can\'t figure it out) or a guy who got bit by a spider and becomes a superhero. Seems like our assumption of what\'s \"normal\" is pretty silly in itself.
The Wakowski brothers were big fans of eastern cinema and Japanese anime. The special effects in Matrix were borrowed mainly from Hong Kong martial arts movies. All the fights were designed by a Hong Kong fight cordinator. So Matrix is the movie that borrowed from eastern cinema, not the other way around.
3) Gotta blame this one on Miramax. This movie is not an action film. It\'s a drama with some action. Watch the trailer again after you\'ve seen the movie... it has nothing to do with the plot of the movie. If you want mindless Hollywood action films, go watch AVP. You might lose a few brain cells in the process though.
4) I don\'t exactly read fast, but following the subtitles was easy. If you have trouble keeping up with the sub, maybe you need some reading classes... and quick! You\'ll fail your SATs if you don\'t get your reading speed up!
This is an excellent movie in every aspect. The cinematography is breathtaking. The story is interesting and full of philosophical ideas. Acting was top notch, well maybe not Jet Li, who was mainly expressionless throughout. The music is a welcome change from American pop music. It was also quite effective in setting the mood. Lastly, you get some awesome, albeit over the top, fight scenes. The entire package totally takes you away from your theater seat and place you in the middle of a fantasy world. Isn\'t this what movies are supposed to do?
