Beforecoming to China I had a few apprehensions acquired mainly becauseofthe aspersions made b the people during my conversations withthem.The problem with us is that we are exceedingly garrulous. We canspeak on anysubject off the cuff. We do not need to know much or evenlittle about it andyet we can give a long lecture on it. Bornpanjandrums we are as such and havea inborn skill to pontificate, so wedo not need to acquire more knowledgeon the subject as there are no freegrey cells in our brains to holdsuperfluous matter.

Calling someonean owl can land youin trouble in India.For that matter you can’t callanyone a crow or a vulture or an eagle or asparrow either. If you thinkthis is because we hate birds then try callingsomeone a pig or an ass ora dog in India. We hate animals too, most ofthem especially the onethat walks on two legs except the buddy we see in themirror. You cancall someone a cow I think without hearing some invectives inreturnbecause cows are considered holy, so females can be taken care ofwhichis a great achievement but you can’t call some a “Saand” whichis Hindifor a stray bull and is considered offensive. You can’t call someoneamonkey either and those of you who are interested in Cricket must haveheard HarbhajanSingh was fined for calling some Australian fellowcricketer a monkey or so wasit said. But I don’t know if Harbhajan knowsthe meaning of this word and evenif he does he almost certainly musthave mouthed a juicy onomatopoeic abuse orhalf of it which will producesame or nearly same vibrations on an English oran exiled Englishman’sear drum as the word monkey will. Let’s come backto the subject oftalkative Indians.
